The Boston Celtics got back to their winning ways in timely fashion. Facing their long-time rivals in the Los Angeles Lakers, the boys in Beantown stepped up in timely fashion, spoiling LeBron James' return with a 130 – 108 drubbing of the former champions. Jayson Tatum was magnificent, scoring 37 points on a 50% clip from the field.

After the game, Jayson Tatum was asked whether Celtics legend Paul Pierce's presence on the court inspired his performance. Tatum responded by saying: (via Mark Murphy)

“… having somebody like Paul come to the game, it’s someone I have a relationship with, I mean, I remember watching him play and now he’s watching me play. That’s crazy to me.”

Tatum and many other young NBA talent today watched guys like Pierce and the other legends on their screens. It's surely a surreal experience to see one of your biggest idols watch you play on the same court they played in. Tatum further praised the Celtics legend, saying he patterned some of his game from him.

“Paul could get his shot off against anybody, and he was never rushed. Amazing footwork, always got to his spot, great touch. Somebody I always watched and stole moves from and watched. He could do everything.”

Indeed, Celtics fans can see Pierce's influence on Jayson Tatum. The Duke product is an adept scorer from the midrange, and his impeccable footwork and shot-making capability is eerily similar to Paul Pierce. It's surely a great honor for both of them to meet each other.

Hopefully for Celtics fans, this statement win will be the start of their turnaround this season.
