Last week, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said he believes a lot of players in the NBA are unhappy. Boston Celtics star point guard Kyrie Irving agrees with Silver, pointing to how social media and increased attention off the court can have a negative impact at times.

Nowadays, players don't have any privacy. They're treated like celebrities in the sense they can't even go have dinner out in the city without people coming up to them for autographs or paparazzi following them around.

Irving says people need to understand that athletes are human beings as well and that having a bunch of money and being famous doesn't exclude them from having issues just like everyone else:

“Look, I respect the ones that came before me, but they didn’t endure social media, the 24/7 news cycle, Kyrie Irving told Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports. “[NBA commissioner] Adam Silver was right; it really affects people in different ways. These are just different times. People are dealing with anxiety, depression and other disorders that affects their well-being. Some people can’t handle all of this, and we need to be mindful of that.”

Last season, DeMar DeRozan, Kevin Love and Kelly Oubre Jr. came out and said they have dealt with mental health issues. It was a big deal because a lot of people in the general public believe athletes have the perfect lives and don't deal with these issues.

Kyrie Irving wants people to know that, at the end of the day, basketball players are just regular people too.
