The Boston Celtics acquired Kyrie Irving from the Cleveland Cavaliers last summer, but he wasn’t the only thing they got back in the deal. His counterpart, Uncle Drew, who makes random appearances on the basketball court and social media, was also a part of the trade to Boston.

Uncle Drew has been a part of Irving’s life for about five years now, with the guard taking time during the summer to film funny bits not even 10 minutes long about Uncle Drew the character created by both Irving and Pepsi. YouTube user JimiTheBaller compiled every chapter of Uncle Drew’s story over the last couple of years into one long-form video about 23 minutes long.

While Irving requested a trade and had to deal with the frenzy of moving to a new city, getting accustomed to a new team, and getting ready for the grueling 82-game regular season as well as the expected postseason run, the dynamic ball-handler out of Duke was also filming his first feature film about his other-half, Uncle Drew.

After months of anticipation, Irving has released the theatrical poster as well as the release date for the upcoming film.

The film, set to release on June 29th, will feature former NBA players Nate Robinson, Chris Webber, Reggie Miller, and Shaquille O’Neal, as well as WNBA legend Lisa Leslie.

Kyrie Irving, averaging 24.6 points, 3.6 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 1.1 steals per game on a career-high 48.5-percent from the field, is hoping the movie will be released only a couple weeks after he’s helped his Boston Celtics to the 2018 NBA Championship. They’ll have a tough road ahead of them, however, with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Toronto Raptors, and Golden State Warriors standing in the way.
