There have been rumors that Kyrie Irving might leave the Boston Celtics after this upcoming season, but that isn't something Irving is worried about right now. In fact, Irving has really enjoyed his time with the Celtics, and it reminds him a lot of his college days with the Duke Blue Devils.
“Going to Boston, a really intimate environment, it almost reminds me of going back to college. It’s just so history-enriched. Seeing all those legends every single day on the wall is a constant reminder of where you are. And I appreciate that.”
Irving didn't get to play as many games as he would have liked last year with the Celtics because of a knee injury that bothered him most of the year, and eventually shut him down. He ended up missing out on all of the playoffs, but he expects to be ready for next season.
“You never want to be hurt but you understand the different steps that you have to reach to feel close to being back at the peak of your top performance, and that’s the hope to get back to,” Irving said via Newsday. “Not just the same way but also a lot better….Everyone’s going to have their perception of what they think it is, and internally how you deal with it is the only thing that matters.”
The Celtics almost made the NBA Finals without Irving and Gordon Hayward, but if they want to make that next step forward those two guys need to be healthy.
If they were that good without their two superstars, think how good they will be with them.
