The Golden State Warriors were close to having to take on the short-handed Boston Celtics in the 2018 NBA Finals, but a couple of masterful LeBron James performances in the Eastern Conference Finals prevented that from happening. Celtics guard Kyrie Irving, who everyone knows is a former member of the Cavs, would not have been able to participate in the Finals due to a knee injury.

Irving as a big summer ahead of him as he enters the final year of his current deal and will look to secure a big contract next summer when he can become a free agent. He’s hopeful that he can lead his Boston Celtics to the Finals this time, and take down the Warriors because he knows just how great that team is.

Irving’s absence allowed young guys like Terry Rozier, Jaylen Brown, and Jayson Tatum to shine the NBA postseason, and they nearly earned a Finals berth without him. His return next season, along with Gordon Hayward’s, would put the Celtics in excellent position to take down the Warriors should they advance to the Finals for the fifth consecutive time, something the oddsmakers are already saying will happen.
