All eyes were on the Boston Celtics on Thursday night as they looked to even out the series against the Miami Heat in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals. Marcus Smart stole the show for the Celtics and his strong performance drew quite a reaction from Los Angeles Lakers icon Magic Johnson.
Johnson took to Twitter to share just how impressed he was with Smart's performance in the Celtics' 127-102 blowout victory:
“The return of Marcus Smart led the Celtics to a blowout victory over the Heat! Smart was the key difference-maker – he had 24 points and was a great facilitator tonight, adding 12 assists and 9 rebounds. His defense on Jimmy Butler was also outstanding,” Johnson said in his tweet.
Smart was an absolute force on both ends of the floor for the Celtics. As a matter of fact, his eye-popping performance saw him enter LeBron James and Larry Bird territory.
His defense, on the other hand, was also something that Boston missed when he was forced to sit out Game 1 due to an injury. The Defensive Player of the Year took it upon himself to try and hold down Jimmy Butler on the evening, and while the Heat star still managed 29 points, there's no denying that Smart was able to prevent Butler from carrying his team in Game 2.
This series now shifts to Boston for Game 3. After stealing a win on Miami's home floor, the Celtics are now in an excellent position in this best-of-seven series.
