As it turns out, Boston Celtics stud Jaylen Brown is actually a big sports film buff. In a recent spot for GQ, the 24-year-old broke down a number of key moments from some of the most iconic basketball movies of all time, including that famed Timo Cruz scene from Coach Carter.

Here's a link to the video, courtesy of GQ:

Brown put himself in the shoes of Timo Cruz, expressing what would have been going through his own mind if had to face that huge of an adversity:

“You gotta respect it, though. How many kids — possibly including myself — would have just been like, ‘you know what, this may not be for me. I need to transfer schools. I need to go somewhere else.'” Brown said. “The fact that Cruz stuck it out, I salute Cruz for that. And the fact that coach Carter did what he did to bring the best out of his players is great.”

We couldn't agree more with Brown here, and having watched and re-watched that epic film too many times, we completely understand why Brown is so emotionally connected to the film as well.

In case you missed it, Brown also told a hilarious experience of himself from high school, wherein he caused some trouble for his entire basketball team. He had a genius idea of suggesting that the entire team slow down during one of their running exercises, which obviously did not sit well with their coach. The entire team got punished because of Brown, but he was very proud to say that no one “snitched” on him. Needless to say, Brown got into a bit of trouble as a youngster.

The 24-year-old Celtics rising star has gone a long way since then, and not only has he become one of the best young players in the NBA today, but more importantly, he continues to be a prominent voice against racial injustice.
