With Erling Haaland likely staying with Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea has stepped up their pursuit of former player and Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku, according to The Athletic's Simon Johnson.

The Blues have already seen two bids for the Belgian be rejected, but they refuse to give up on a possible reunion. Bolstering their attacking ranks with another goal-scorer is the number one priority right now for Chelsea, with Timo Werner struggling to produce in his debut season at Stamford Bridge last term.

Lukaku is reportedly extremely happy at Inter, where he's essentially revived his career. The 28-year-old has formed a terrific partnership with Lautaro Martinez for the Serie A champions, with the two combining for 41 goals in league play in 2020/21. On his own, Lukaku netted 24 times and supplied 11 assists for his club last season.

Chelsea has also been linked to Harry Kane, who would also cost a bag of money. But with Man City focusing on securing Jack Grealish's signature, the Blues may also shoot their shot at the Spurs talisman.

Lukaku previously played at Stamford Bridge from 2011-14, which included loan spells at West Brom and Everton. He made just 10 appearances across three seasons for Chelsea, eventually moving to Goodison Park on a full-time basis where he blossomed into one of the most complete strikers in England's top flight.

Roman Abramovich clearly wants to reunite with Lukaku after seeing him find his form again in Italy. It seems like a pipe dream at this point, but don't be surprised to see the Blues make another bid for Romelu Lukaku.
