Former Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud wittily commented on talks of Frank Lampard’s potential coaching job at Newcastle United.

Along with the change in ownership, rumors of coaching staff revamping followed suit at Newcastle United with former Chelsea manager Frank Lampard reportedly eyed as a suitable candidate.

While nothing is concrete yet, Lampard’s former player Olivier Giroud, who now plays for Serie A side AC Milan, was quizzed to share his thoughts on the subject.

Instead of giving a detailed analysis, Giroud joked about it before predicting that Lampard will make a good Newcastle United manager.

“[Lampard] He would need a good, warm jacket to face the winter there!,” Giroud told The Athletic of Lampard possibly coaching Newcastle United. “No, joking apart, I think he could be successful there.”

Earlier this year, Chelsea decided to axe Lampard and deployed former Paris Saint-Germain manager Thomas Tuchel as his replacement.

Tuchel was quick to make his mark on the Blues and won the UEFA Champions League title in his maiden season with the club. However, Giroud reckoned that should look down on Lampard as he believes his former coach could also has the “potential” to be great.

“[Thomas] Tuchel wanted to play a certain way,” the forward revealed. “His philosophy was clear and we improved so much tactically. Lampard was maybe a bit young. It was maybe a bit too early in his managerial career to take a club like Chelsea. I don’t know if that’s true, but maybe you can explain it like that.”

“But I think Frank has got the potential to become a top manager,” he continued. “He needs time and experience to improve himself as a coach. You cannot become a top player or manager just like that.”
