After days of rumors and speculation, now-former Inter Milan star Romelu Lukaku completed his multiyear permanent transfer deal with Chelsea on Thursday.

This is a reunion for Lukaku as he spent a pair of seasons with Chelsea over the early 2010s, although he amounted to a mere 15 appearances in all competitions during his run with the Blues.

Chelsea had to go all out to acquire Lukaku from Inter Milan, especially as the former Serie A winner had expressed his desire to stay with the club earlier in the transfer window. For the moment, Chelsea has shelled out an astounding €115 million to haul in the longtime Premier League star.

As noted by Transfermarkt, Lukaku is now the most expensive player ever in terms of cumulative transfer fees. Lukaku has had six transfers in his career, which have mounted up to €327.5 million in total fees. The new Chelsea striker surpassed the likes of Paris Saint-Germain superstar Neymar (€310.2 million) and Juventus star forward Cristiano Ronaldo (€230 million) in this notable list.

Lukaku's previous transfer came when he left Manchester United to sign with Inter Milan, which the reigning Serie A champions paid a staggering €80 million in the deal. This move surely paid off for Inter Milan, as he wound up scoring key goals in all competitions and helped the team dethrone Juventus' reign of dominance in Italian football by claiming the 2020-2021 Serie A title.

Lukaku rejoins Chelsea with plenty of expectations, as the Blues aim to join Manchester City and Liverpool as the heavy serious contenders in the Premier League this season.
