Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is open to recruiting Borussia Dortmund's star Erling Haaland amid concerns with Romelu Lukaku.

Over the summer, multiple rumors sparked of a possible arrival of Haaland to Chelsea. However, the Blues failed to secure the Norweigan and went for Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku.

Tuchel opens up about the club's chances to sign Haaland during the summer and explains how the club values the young Norweigan goalscorer.

“We talked about Erling Haaland a couple of times, including during the transfer window. But then it seemed absolutely unrealistic and not at all feasible.”

“We talk about him regularly, of course, because he’s a fantastic player and clearly the defining figure at Dortmund, who is a big rival for us in the Champions League.”

Lukaku, of course, plays the same position as Haaland. Recruiting Dortmund's star will surely spark debate on whether or not the two can actually play well together. Tuchel jokingly stressed a potential partnership between the two.

“You mean two at the top [with] Lukaku and Haaland? We can talk about it (laughs)!”

Despite having a fantastic start to the season, the last six matches have been a struggle for Lukaku. He failed to make a significant impact on all of these games— failing to place his name on the scoresheet as well.

Meanwhile, Tuchel stresses how the Belgian is currently adjusting for Chelsea.

“We are in the process of adapting to each other and in my opinion, I feel Romelu is being overplayed,” Tuchel said on Wednesday. “I think he played too many competitions over the summer, with his national team and now the Nations League.

“He is a fantastic athlete and such a competitive guy that he wants to win these things.

Today, Chelsea is heralded as one of the favorites to win the Premier League, sitting on top of the table with 19 points.
