New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter was voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame today, but Kansas City Chiefs superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes has one problem.
Considered by many to be one of the best shortstops in baseball history, Jeter received 396 of 397 possible votes — one off from being a unanimous selection. A former baseball himself, Mahomes took to Twitter to express his shock.
How is Derek Jeter not unanimous???? #BaseballHallofFame

Mahomes' father was a former MLB pitcher, and the 2018 NFL MVP excelled at both sports in high school. Despite his intentions to play football at Texas Tech, Mahomes was good enough to be drafted by the MLB. In the 37th round of the 2014 MLB Draft, the Detroit Tigers selected the future Chiefs star.
As for Jeter, the former Yankees star retired in 2014 after a 20-year career in New York. “The Captain” was a 14-time MLB All-Star, five-time World Series champion and five-time Gold Glove Award winner.
Jeter posted a .310 batting average while hitting 260 home runs and 1,311 RBIs during his two-decade career. Despite an impressive career, it was apparently not enough for one voter. Either way, Jeter is now in the Baseball Hall of Fame and joins former Colorado Rockies outfielder Larry Walker in the 2020 class.
While Mahomes may have been a skilled pitcher himself, it's safe to say he chose the right sport. The former Texas Tech star was league MVP in only his second season and at only 24 years old, has led the Chiefs to their first Super Bowl appearance since 1969.
