After a brief three-year stint in Chicago, former Kansas City offensive coordinator Matt Nagy is returning to the Chiefs as a quarterbacks coach. It's a move that surprised some fans, especially since it was possible for Nagy to still be coaching for some teams. However, at least one valuable player for KC is excited to reunite with his old mentor.

Patrick Mahomes, the Chiefs' superstar quarterback, is reportedly excited to work with Matt Nagy once again. This report comes from Josina Anderson, who also hints at some internal changes for Andy Reid's coaching staff in her tweet.

Mahomes worked with Nagy with the Chiefs in 2017, his rookie year. At the time, Mahomes was sitting behind Alex Smith, who was having a career year. That year, the offense was one of the best in the league, improving from 20th in 2016 to 5th best in 2017. However, they would collapse in stunning fashion in the Wild Card round, blowing an 18-point lead.

Nagy would make his move to Chicago after that season, around the same time the Chiefs promoted Mahomes as the full-time starter. It will be interesting to see how Nagy could influence a Chiefs offense that has immense firepower but can tend to fall flat and be predictable at times.

Anderson's tweet also indicates a potential shuffle of coaching duties. Nagy's arrival with the Chiefs as a quarterbacks coach could mean that he will be sharing playcalling duties along with Eric Bieniemy. After a lackluster second half in the AFC Championship Game cost them a Super Bowl run, they are counting on Nagy to encourage Mahomes to be better.
