There have been a lot of stories about former professional athletes who ended up being broke after years of not playing.

It’s no secret. Despite earning millions of dollars over the course of their entire careers, NBA players, especially the non-stars, still need to prepare themselves for life after basketball. They might be in peak physical condition right now, but they will get old, or worse, injuries could happen.

As such, the NBA Job Shadow Program recently provided opportunities for players to have a feel of what it’s like working in a normal job. Nina Mandell wrote about the story in her recent article for USA Today Sports.

CJ Watson, who had an interview for Google and Douglas Elliman, talked about the experience.

“They had different interactive meetings, like have a meeting on a big circle bicycle, meetings like that around campus around the city, when you’re riding on a bike which is kind of cool, and different than what you see in any other company.”

NBA champion Dahntay Jones also shared his takeaways from the program.

“I really didn’t have a vast amount of knowledge about the business so I wanted to learn and see if I could translate my skills to that business.”

Players like Watson and Jones could, one day, see themselves working in the corporate field, or they could be managing a business themselves. Either way, the program provides a great opportunity to them by helping set up a more stable future.
