Kawhi Leonard speaks out on Clippers’ upcoming return to Toronto to face Raptors
Reigning Finals MVP Kawhi Leonard will be making his much-anticipated return to Toronto next week, as the Clippers will pay a visit to Scotiabank Arena to face the defending NBA champions Toronto Raptors.
Leonard, who was instrumental in helping the Raptors win their first-ever NBA title, decided to leave the team in free agency and head back to his hometown Los Angeles to join the Clippers. When asked about his thoughts on returning to Toronto for the first the Finals, Kawhi had a very straightforward answer, per Jovan Buha of The Athletic.
“I’ll be thinking about just playing against the team and wanting to win the game, for the most part. Just really getting my ring that night. … We’re there for one reason: to play the Raptors and try to win the game.”
The Raptors have remained as one of the best teams in the East despite losing Leonard, thanks in large part to Pascal Siakam and Fred VanVleet, who took their games to the next level this season. Veterans Kyle Lowry, Serge Ibaka, and Marc Gasol have also been reliable on both ends of the floor.
Meanwhile, the Clippers are now second in the Western Conference standings. Leonard has been sensational all season for LA, and the addition of Paul George gave that team two of the best two-way players in the league.
It will be interesting to see how Raptors fans will react to Leonard’s return. But one thing is for sure.
The Clippers-Raptors game is going to be pretty good.
