The Los Angeles Clippers take on their in-town rivals, the Los Angeles Lakers tomorrow. This is made more interesting with the debut of veteran point guard Rajon Rondo in the Clippers' colors.

Just last season, Rajon Rondo proved to be a key cog in the Lakers' run to another Larry O'Brien trophy. One could make the case that after the duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis, he was the most important player on that squad. The following offseason Rondo signed with the Atlanta Hawks in a backup role to rising star Trae Young.
In 27 games with the Hawks, Rondo averaged just 14.9 minutes per game, and put up averages of 3.9 points, two boards, and 3.5 dimes. These are lackluster numbers, but he is one of those players whose value is more than just his box score.

He can facilitate an offense and locate open shooters and cutters, which will benefit Clippers' superstars Kawhi Leonard and Paul George. His outside shooting has drastically improved from his younger days and shot 37.8% from deep in his Atlanta stint.
Despite being one of the shorter guards around, he has a 6'9 wingspan and large hands, which help him disrupt passing plays. He can still be an effective defender.
Most importantly, Rondo turns his performance up when the postseason arrives, which is what the Clippers are banking on. As much as a roller coaster his career has been, come playoff time his performance hits a new gear.
The Battle of Los Angeles has been must-watch entertainment recently, however with injuries to Lakers superstars LeBron James and Anthony Davis, the much-anticipated matchup may not live up to expectations.
