Cody Garbrandt has been gunning for a fight with Sean O’Malley after the two went back-and-forth at the UFC 269 pre-event press conference. O’Malley planted the seeds for a future matchup.

Cody Garbrandt appears to really want the fight and has called out Sean O’Malley many times. He recently spoke about it on his podcast.

“There’s a lot of really good match-ups (at 135). Sean O’Malley, I really want to whoop his ass. That’s a fight that’s looming,” Garbrandt said during his ‘Rollin with the Homie’ podcast on his YouTube channel. “Hopefully, that could possibly be my next one.”

“I want that fight,” said Garbrandt. “He might not want to fight me now because I’m not in the rankings at 135, and he’s ranked. That would be a good fight.”

The UFC could be interested in the fight as it is an opportunity to promote either man as they both get plenty of views. The issue is that neither seems to be on the same career trajectory or even the same weight class.

“When it’s over, I say that it’s over, not the fans, not Dana (White), not fucking anybody but me,” Garbrandt said. “I’m 30-years old. I still have a lot left in the tank to do. We’ll make the corrections. We’ll figure it out.”

Many have pushed Cody Garbrandt to consider retirement after losing by knockout at UFC 269 a few weeks ago. At 30 years old he still has plenty of fights left in his career should he opt not to retire.
