The Clemson Tigers (10-1) won the ACC Championship in impressive fashion on Saturday, dominating the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (10-1) 34-10 in the conference championship game in Charlotte. Star QB Trevor Lawrence was obviously the driving force behind the thrashing.

In November, Notre Dame handed Clemson's its only loss of the season, 47-40 in overtime, though Lawrence didn't play in that game after testing positive for COVID-19. The positive result forced Lawrence to miss two games, which — along with the cancelled game against Florida State — seemingly ended his final chance to win college football's most prestigious award.

However, Lawrence has played himself back in to the race, and he roasted the Notre Dame defense on Saturday. He completed 25 of 36 passes for 322 yards, two touchdowns and one interception, and he racked up another 90 yards and a score on the ground.

After his stellar performance, his head coach, Dabo Swinney, emphatically made the case for why his QB's name should be on the 2020 trophy.

“It would be a crying shame if the Heisman didn't attach their name to Trevor Lawrence. That would be a shame,” Swinney said in his on-field post-game remarks. “I know that's become a ‘stat award', but if you watch college football and you don't know that this is the best player in the country, then I don't know what you're looking at. So the Heisman should want their name attached to Trevor Lawrence.”

Entering the weekend, Alabama QB Mac Jones (-200) was the frontrunner for the award, followed by Florida QB Kyle Trask (+250), Jones' Crimson Tide teammate, wide receiver DeVonta Smith (+750), Notre Dame QB Ian Book (+1400), and Lawrence (+1600), per VegasInsider.

Whether Lawrence wins the Heisman or not, he will surely be the no. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Unfortunately for Lawrence, that could very well mean playing for the New York Jets.

Until then, he'll be focused on the upcoming College Football Playoff, and capping off his illustrious collegiate career with a second national title.
