The Washington Commanders have found their new quarterback. The team has acquired Carson Wentz in a blockbuster trade with the Indianapolis Colts.

NFL insider Adam Schefter tweeted the news Wednesday afternoon:

After multiple injuries and lack of productivity with the Philadelphia Eagles, Wentz was traded to the Colts in exchange for a 2021 third-round pick and a 2022 conditional second-round pick. He spent less than a calendar year on the Colts' roster before being traded once again, this time to Washington.

Wentz had a decent year with the Colts, but it wasn't enough for him to stick around another year. He completed 322 for a 62.4 completion percentage. The 29-year-old played in all 17 games for Indianapolis and recorded 3,563 passing yards and 27 touchdowns as the team just missed the playoffs, thanks in part to a poor performance by Wentz in Week 17 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

News of the trade broke just one day after Aaron Rodgers' and Russell Wilson's places of employment were publicized. Rodgers is sticking with the Green Bay Packers. Meanwhile, Russell Wilson was traded from the Seattle Seahawks to the Denver Broncos.

Washington likely wasn't where Wentz wanted to end up this offseason. The new Commanders quarterback will play his former team in the Eagles twice since the teams share the NFC East. Wentz didn't have the easiest time in Philadelphia. He suffered multiple injuries that hindered his success and watched his backup lead the Eagles to their first Super Bowl championship in franchise history.

Now, like the Seahawks without Wilson, the Colts are on the market for their next franchise quarterback.
