It doesn't seem like there's an end in sight for the Dallas Cowboys' dispute with Ezekiel Elliott. The running back wants to get a new contract and the two sides don't seem to be exactly close on an agreement.

Elliott was noticeably absent from camp on Thursday, as he wasn't on the team plane to take them to Oxnard, California.

This has caused many to wonder exactly how this is going to play out. Former NFL wide receiver Cris Carter gave his take, telling Elliott he should be willing to sit out in 2019.

This could go one of two ways for Elliott.

In the first way, the Cowboys' offense could falter. This would mean quarterback Dak Prescott wouldn't put up numbers and the team would fall flat on their face. If that happens, Elliott would prove that he's the main cog that makes the offense go. The Cowboys would then realize they need him and pay up.

In the second way, the Dallas offense could look just fine without him. Prescott proves he can do it without Elliott and the team still wins games and makes the playoffs. If that happens, the Cowboys would prove they don't need the superstar running back to win. He would then have wasted a season and did nothing to help his case. If anything, it makes him seem a little less valuable and might hurt his stock ever-so-slightly.

Yes, this is something Ezekiel Elliott will probably consider. However, he needs to be cautious of taking this advice from Carter. If the Cowboys struggle, he'll get paid, but if they don't though he's going to come out of the other end looking a lot worse in the light.
