Dak Prescott is still under contract with the Dallas Cowboys, but he's keeping it honest with himself and already thinking about the future. With the NFL being an ever-changing business, Prescott knows that he can only control what he can control, and that's playing for the team that he currently has a deal with.

“It’s not something I look for, or prepare, even plan for, but if something like that happens, I’ll certainly be ready for it,” Prescott said in an interview with Fox 4.

Prescott mentioned that he and Cowboys owner Jerry Jones have discussed getting a deal done, but the quarterback isn't too worried about that right now.

“I've got a ton of confidence, but honestly, it's not something I think about,” Prescott said. “I'm here in training camp and focused on this year. I'm on a contract for this year and that's all I really care about.”

Dak Prescott has been with the Cowboys for his entire career, but things never last forever in the NFL. With Prescott having other life experiences outside of football, it's helped him look at things differently in his career.

“Having a kid, your perspective changes a little bit in life,” Prescott said. “A lot of quarterbacks have [played for other teams]. That's just the business and nature of this game. That's just not me being naive to that.”

Despite the uncertainty on if Prescott and the Cowboys will get a deal done, there's no doubt that the quarterback deserves every dollar he wants, especially with him having a career-best season last year. Prescott finished second in MVP voting behind Lamar Jackson, leading the NFL in completions and touchdown passes while throwing for 4,516 yards.

Prescott has been consistently good throughout his career, but he has yet to win an NFC Championship Game and get to the Super Bowl. Each year, the Cowboys look like they have enough talent to get the job done, but continuously fall short. Last season, the Green Bay Packers stunned the Cowboys in the Wild Card round of the playoffs. In that game, Prescott threw for 403 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions, but it was the Cowboys defense that hurt them the most.

When Prescott does get a new deal with the Cowboys or with another team, he'll most likely be one of the top-paid quarterbacks in the league. Packer quarterback Jordan Love just recently signed a four-year, $220 million contract extension, making him one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the league, and he's just coming off of his first season as a starter. Prescott will definitely bring Love, Trevor Lawrence, and Joe Burrow's contracts to the table when it's time for him to negotiate.
