The Dallas Cowboys suffered a difficult loss Sunday, losing at home to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Wild Card playoff game. Following the loss, fans were seen throwing trash on the field. The trash appeared to hit Cowboys defensive end Demarcus Lawrence, leaving many to assume the fans were aiming for players.

After the game, Lawrence addressed the notion of fans throwing trash at players. Dallas Morning News beat writer Calvin Watkins captured his thoughts and posted them to Twitter.

“That shit was aimed at the refs… It had nothing to do with me,” said Lawrence.

The end of the game ended somewhat controversially. With time winding down, Cowboys quarterback took off up the middle of the field for a first down run. He attempted to get to the line and spike the ball before time expired, as Dallas had no timeouts. However, the referee charged with spotting the football was behind the play.

Dallas did not get the snap off in time, ultimately losing 23-17. The fans frustration probably goes a bit further than that. The Cowboys committed 14 penalties for 89 yards. The 14 penalties tied the franchise record for most penalties in a playoff game.

Once things settle down, fans might take a deeper look at the game. San Francisco was also flagged nine times. They were more physical, rushing for 169 yards to Dallas' 77 yards on the ground.

The 49ers lost Nick Bosa to a concussion in the first half, and Fred Warner late in the game to an ankle injury. Fans throwing trash onto the field is a clear exercise in frustration.
