It's no secret to the Dallas Cowboys that they will likely part ways with Jason Garrett if they fail to make the Super Bowl this season. With this possibility becoming more of a reality with every passing day, names such as Urban Meyer is becoming more involved in the rumor mill as the next head coach.

Jane Slater of the NFL Network, turned to Twitter to reveal Lincoln Riley is also in the mix.

“Jerry Jones says Jason Garrett will remain coach, but I can confirm a real interest in Urban Meyer. In fact, it was said that Stephen Jones had spoken with him recently. Lincoln Riley remains a strong candidate and drop this name as a Clemson OC Tony Elliott opportunity by sources, “Slater noted on Twitter.

The names being linked to the head coaching job are all great figures in college football, and it's understandable why Jerry Jones would prefer to have a college coach taking charge of the Cowboys this time. However, there's a solid argument for Meyer heading to Dallas: he has a solid winning record with the Buckeyes during his time there as head coach.

Moreover, the amount of talent they have makes the Cowboys an intriguing challenge for him, per Sporting News' Bill Bender:

The Cowboys have talent that has underachieved this season. Dak Prescott leads the NFL in passing yards with 4,122. Ezekiel Elliott, who starred for Meyer at Ohio State, is fourth in the league with 1,071 yards. Amari Cooper ranks fourth in the league with 1,054 receiving yards.

Dallas has the triplets. They just need to keep them under contract and make a real run at the Super Bowl before the window starts to shrink. Meyer was a master motivator at the college level. Could he do the same with Dallas?

Given Urban's track record, it's not hard to think that he can do it with ease.

As for Lincoln Riley, he can take the gig without the bagged Meyer brings.
