After being on sale for quite some time, the Denver Broncos finally sold for an insane $4.65 billion. The franchise now has new ownership and an exciting roster with Russell Wilson leading the way under center. However, after this purchase, the biggest winners might just be the Dallas Cowboys owner, Jerry Jones, as well as the other big market teams.
According to Front Office Sports, the $4.65 billion sale of the Broncos directly impacts the value of the other 31 franchises. “The average NFL team value should increase 12%, based on what Walton could have paid to secure the team.” For that reason, the Cowboys and the rest of the league should be thanking Rob Walton for purchasing the Denver franchise for 12% more than the team is worth.
The Broncos are not considered a “big market” team. However, the Cowboys are estimated to be the most expensive franchise in the NFL. Therefore, with Rob Walton's massive purchase of Denver, Jerry Jones and the Cowboys (as well as the rest of the NFL) received an increase in value.
For example, in 2021, Dallas had an estimated value of $6.5 billion, per Forbes. So now, if Jerry Jones were to sell the Cowboys, he could certainly ask for a higher price tag than the estimated $6.5 billion his franchise is worth. The NFL is ever-growing and every team is likely to continue gaining value for the unforeseeable future.
With that in mind, keep an eye on every team in the league. If each franchise continues to increase in value, perhaps we'll finally see some of these clubs, including the Cowboys, go up for sale in the coming years.
