In the NBA today, it’s been a normal occurrence to see players depart their long-time teams for a new franchise, leaving fans, and some teammates surprised with their move. That is the same case this summer, as some of the biggest names in the league switched teams, and left many in shock.

For Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard, he believes that stars owe it to their supporters and current teammates to know first about their future plans. He recently appeared on the latest episode of CBS Sports Radio's “Reiter Than You”, where he talked about the relationships players have with each other, and even said that fans also become part of their teams.

“You owe your teammates first because those are the guys that you spend the most time around that you have relationships with, more so than anybody else.”

“And also the fans because they are part of your team. They're the people that come and cheer for you and support you as much as anybody. So I think they're the two groups of people that you owe the truth. They deserve to know the truth in where you stand and what your plans are.”

Although he did not drop any names, it could be thought of a subtle shot to the likes of Kevin Durant and Gordon Hayward, who both left their previous teams to join a contender. As it turned out, both players may have burned bridges with the Oklahoma City Thunder and Utah Jazz fans, as their former teammates took shots at them following their decisions.

Lillard has stayed with the Blazers throughout his five-year pro career, but it remains to be seen if he will continue playing for them in the future, especially with the lack of success the team has had so far. Despite making it to the playoffs in four consecutive seasons, they have not gone past the second round, and the team has not been able to lure big name free agents to their fold, making it even harder for Lillard and company to contend for a title.

However, Lillard has also said in the past that he's not in the business of chasing championships.
