Following the shocking news that surfaced about the Boston Celtics pulling the trigger on trading the top overall pick of this year’s draft to the Philadelphia 76ers, the team is now focusing on two players they may select third overall.

Lonzo Ball, who is the consensus second pick, and Josh Jackson, are being eyed by Danny Ainge and company for a meeting and possible workout ahead of the lottery, as they feel that they could be a good fit in their system. With Markelle Fultz expected to be taken by the Sixers, it leaves them with a chance to land either of the two.

With only a few days to go before June 22, the Celtics will be very busy in the next few days as they have a big decision to make, and find out who has the potential to make a difference for them next season. Already having a backcourt that features All-Star point guard Isaiah Thomas and defensive ace Avery Bradley, their move to give up the No. 1 pick does make sense if they plan on adding a wing player instead, and that’s where Jackson comes into play. However, Ball could also be another possibility for them, should the Los Angeles Lakers come up with a surprise of their own on draft night and take the former Kansas forward.

It remains to be seen who they will ultimately select, but the Celtics are still in a good position to add a young and talented player who can further bolster their lineup, and increase their chances of winning the Eastern Conference. Their situation is definitely something worth keeping an eye on and will be interesting to find out which rookie will don the team’s colors.
