Deron Williams is nowhere near the All-Star form he used to be from a few years ago, and neither does he figure to return to such level.

But at a competitive age of 32 years, the former lottery pick can still produce acceptable numbers for a starter.

Williams began the summer under the knife as he underwent surgery for his sports hernia, three months later, doctors have finally given him the greenlight to join the Dallas Mavericks come training camp.

Last season, Deron Williams averaged 14.1 points and 5.8 assists in 65 game for Rick Carlisle and the Mavs. He’s now joined by two veterans with championship experience in Harrison Barnes and Andrew Bogut.

The Mavs are one of the more seasoned teams out there, which means that they are very much capable of coming up with surprises every now and then. Whether they will be able to sustain such spurts is the bigger question, and Williams should play a huge role in the outcome.
