The Arizona Diamondbacks could not have survived their ordeal in the 2023 National League Division Series against the Philadelphia Phillies without the excellence of second baseman Ketel Marte. For his outstanding series versus Philly, Marte was given the NLCS MVP honor following the D-backs' 4-2 Game 7 victory Tuesday night.

In the locker room, Marte told Mike Ferrin of the MLB Network he's dedicating his success in the 2023 MLB playoffs to his mother.

“That was for my mom,” Marte said as his Diamondbacks teammates celebrated in the background.

Marte must have so many emotions running in him as he tries to absorb the reality that he and his team are going to the 2023 World Series. He lost his mother, Elpidia Valdez, to a car accident in 2017, and he'd give anything if that meant his mom would be with him to celebrate this unforgettable moment in his baseball career.

Although Marte went just 1-for-5 with five strikeouts in Game 7 of the Phillies series, he still concluded the NLCS with sparkling numbers, slashing .387/.406/.581 with four doubles, a triple, a stolen base, and three RBIs. In the series-clinching victory, it was rookie Corbin Carroll, though, who shined the most for Arizona. Carroll went 3-for4 with two runs and two RBIs.

Of course, there is still so much more to play for Marte and the Diamondbacks, as they are about to embark on a seven-game series versus the Texas Rangers in the 2023 Fall Classic. The Rangers have the home-field advantage, and Game 1 of the World Series is scheduled to take place in Arlington on Friday.
