One of the all-time great FIBA World Cup players is celebrating Germany's upset of Team USA Friday. When Germany beat Team USA 113-111 to reach the 2023 World Cup gold medal game, Dirk Nowitzki was quick to rejoice on Twitter. Nowitzki tweeted at the official account for Germany's account one minute after the final buzzer sounded and the United States was eliminated from championship contention.

Translated from German to English, Nowitzki's tweet simply reads “Yessss.” During his Hall of Fame career with the Dallas Mavericks, Nowitzki was the best player on the German national team. Nowitzki was the FIBA World Cup Top Scorer in 2002 and 2006.

The Germans will go on to face Serbia with the 2023 World Cup gold medal on the line. Team USA and Canada will compete for the bronze medal.

Dennis Schroder had 17 points and nine assists for Germany. Guard Andreas Obst needed just 11 field-goal attempts to score a team-high 24 points.

Had Nowitzki been on this Germany team, the Americans would've had no answer for the Mavs' star. Team USA struggled with size all tournament long, and it played a big role in Germany's upset. Daniel Theis, a marginal NBA player, had 21 points and seven rebounds in the World Cup semifinal game. Mo and Franz Wagner combined to score 32 points.

Team USA center Jaren Jackson Jr. had eight points and grabbed just three rebounds. The 113 points by Germany were the most points ever allowed by the United States in the World Cup or the Olympics.

Germany had 25 second-chance points compared to just eight for Team USA.
