Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman had an emotional return to his longtime former team, the Atlanta Braves, during their series over the weekend. It was Freeman's first time facing his former team at Truist Park since leaving the Braves in the offseason. After Freeman's weekend back in Atlanta, the Dodgers' star surprisingly fired his agent and then released a statement to break his silence on the matter, via Mark Bowman.

In his statement, Freeman admitted that the weekend in Atlanta was emotional for both him and his family. He explained that his representation status “remains fluid” and he'll provide an additional update on the situation later on down the line, if need be.

Among the notable storylines during the offseason was the fact that Freeman and the Braves could part ways after winning the World Series the season prior. While details of their contract negotiations were never made public, the Braves ended up trading for Matt Olson and letting Freeman walk to LA.

The timing of all this certainly begs the question as to whether it was Freeman who truly wanted to leave Atlanta. Firing his agent right after returning home to Atlanta for a three-game series is certainly intriguing, perhaps suggesting Freeman wasn't happy with how things played out in the offseason.

While he's committed to the project in Los Angeles for the long haul, having signed a six-year deal with the club in the offseason, his actions of late just prove that Atlanta and the Braves will forever hold a place in his heart. After firing his agent, Freeman felt he needed to clear the air, though he didn't really offer too much explanation into his decision to move on from Excel.
