Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield caused quite a stir after he dropped a not-so-subtle hint that he wanted the Miami Dolphins to draft him. However, the reigning Heisman Trophy winner has quickly clarified that he’ll be willing to play for any team that drafts him.

Per Baker Mayfield on Twitter:

“Everybody can relax, I will play anywhere that gives me a chance. I’m not picky, I will go anywhere and strive to uplift a franchise and win ball games.”

Mayfield also explains that he wrote #GetMeToMiami because he was talking to former Oklahoma wide receiver and current Dolphin Kenny Stills.

“I commented about playing for Miami because I was talking to a former Sooner in Kenny Stills.”

In fairness to Mayfield, it does seem like a somewhat plausible explanation for his surprising declaration. It’s not hard to see him joking around and having some fun with his fellow OU alum even though his comment would almost definitely be taken seriously by a good number of people.

The Dolphins at No. 11 would actually be a possible landing spot for Mayfield, who is likely to land in the mid-to-late first-round. Ryan Tannehill has not developed into the franchise quarterback the Dolphins had envisioned and is also coming off a torn ACL, so Miami could easily take a good look at finding their next quarterback for the future.

However, Mayfield should be content with getting drafted by an NFL team where he can get the chance to play, whether it’s in Miami or some other team.
