Former NFL head coach and current ESPN analyst Rex Ryan is reportedly expecting to be in the mix should the Miami Dolphins job become open in the near future.

There has been plenty of speculation surrounding Adam Gase's job security with the team, and that has led to a lot of back and forth as to whether he'll be back for his fourth season.

However, should the Dolphins make a move, it sounds like Ryan is already preparing himself to join a potential list of candidates.

From Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald:

League sources say Ryan has told some of the assistant coach candidates that he has a solid chance of landing one or the other Miami job but that he’s an NFL coach at heart and would prefer to coach the Dolphins.

The other job that Salguero mentions is the one with the Miami Hurricanes, with former head coach Mark Richt surprisingly announcing his retirement on Sunday morning.

Ryan being in the mix for the job probably wouldn't be all that shocking, especially given his vast experience in the league. He led the New York Jets to two appearances in the AFC title game during his six seasons on the job, and after that, he spent a couple seasons with the Buffalo Bills.

Miami would be an attractive destination should a coaching change happen, as the team may not be that far away from being able to turn the corner.

But, for now, Ryan's interest doesn't mean all that much with Gase still employed by the franchise.
