It has just been confirmed that the Miami Dolphins have struck a deal with the Tennessee Titans that will bring 2020 first-round pick Isaiah Wilson to Miami. The general belief is that this move will have a significant impact on how the Dolphins intend to use their third overall pick in the upcoming 2021 NFL Draft.
This report comes via NFL insider Ian Rapoport of the NF Network:
The complete details of the deal have yet to be revealed, but at this point, we know that this will involve pick swaps between the Dolphins and the Titans.
As a result, the Dolphins are now unlikely to use their third overall pick on an offensive lineman for star quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. With Wilson now in the picture, Miami will likely pass on former University of Oregon OT Penei Sewell. If he's still available at the No. 3 spot, then it would make sense for the Dolphins to pick wide receiver Devonta Smith of Alabama.
Wilson did not exactly have the best of seasons with the Titans in his rookie year. On the field, he produced just three snaps throughout the campaign. His troubles off the field were well-documented, which included a DUI arrest and a suspension for violating team rules. As such, it isn't surprising that the Dolphins were able to swoop in on Wilson for what looks like a bargain deal. As the above report states, this move presents a clean slate for the highly-promising Wilson after what was a tumultuous debut campaign for him in Tennessee.
