Dragon Quest Treasures is coming out as a Nintendo Switch exclusive on December 9, 2022.
Dragon Quest is well-known to be one of the two great JRPGs alongside Final Fantasy that led to the mainstream acceptance and recognition of the genre. However, Square Enix proved before that the series isn't meant to be caged in its JRPG roots. There have been a lot of Dragon Quest spin-offs before, but nothing was as successful as the Minecraft-inspired Dragon Quest Builders. The success of that game led to a sequel, and it looks like Square Enix is hungry for more. Enter Dragon Quest Treasures – yet another spin-off of the Dragon Quest series, and it's also looking very promising.
Dragon Quest Treasures Story
In Dragon Quest Treasures, players take control of either Erik or Mia, best friends and siblings who live on a Viking longship, switching between the two characters any time they wish. They get marooned into another world by a pair of mysterious spirits – a flying green pig and a flying pink cat named Purrsula and Porcus. They get transported to (or as kids say these days, “Isekai-‘ed”) a world called Draconia, a land of legend where the mythical Seven Dragon Stones reside. Now, the pair will have to traverse this magical world and defeat fearsome monsters, embarking on a treasure hunt that will turn them into prestigious adventures.
Dragon Quest Treasures Gameplay
Players can explore different biomes in Draconia, exploring different islands each one having different climates and with its own biome of monsters and perils. Erik and Mia can either defeat the monsters they encounter or befriend the monsters using the power of the “Dragon's Dagger,” allowing them to amass a party to help them in their adventures.
