Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski seemed unsure if the injury to freshman phenom Zion Williamson was caused by him bursting out of his shoe in the opening 33 seconds of a rivalry game against the North Carolina Tar Heels.

Williamson attempted to maneuver past Luke Maye, only to have his shoe betray him, breaking through and seemingly causing the knee injury that saw him sit out the rest of the game.

Coach K wasn't so convinced:

“I've seen guys bust through shoes, but not sprain their knee,” said Krzyzewski after an 88-72 loss to UNC. “I haven't seen the tape — I mean, his shoe burst. Even last game, he slipped a couple of times, so I don't know if he had already done it.”

Williamson seemed fine through the opening 33 seconds of the game, but more likely than not, attempting a change of direction (like he was with a half-spin) and landing unorthodoxly can cause a tweak or hyperextension of the knee.

The nature in which a pair of his Nike PG 2.5s broke was also unimaginable, as it broke through the side and through the outsole toe portion — a freakish shoe debacle for a freakish athlete who helped drive up ticket prices to a Super Bowl-esque level.
