Per Tom Osborn of the San Antonio Express-News, Detroit Pistons head coach Dwane Casey says that San Antonio Spurs All-Star shooting guard DeMar DeRozan is “at home” in San Antonio after being traded by the Toronto Raptors in July.

“He’s at home,” said Casey, who was hired to coach the Detroit Pistons after the Raptors fired the 2018 NBA Coach of the Year in May. “He loves his teammates. He loves his team. He likes the fact that everybody has kind of counted San Antonio out, which I am not one of those. I think they are going to be a very good team in the Western Conference.”

“But he has made the transition. He has a healthy distaste for Toronto, which we all know. But again, I think he has made the transition very, very well.”

DeRozan spent his first nine seasons with the Raptors after being selected with the ninth overall pick in the 2009 NBA Draft. However, even after expressing a desire to remain with the Raptors for his entire career — a sentiment that should have well-received by an organization that saw All-Stars in Vince Carter and Chris Bosh leave the franchise in their prime — he was traded for an elite player but one whose sights seemed set on signing with the Los Angeles Clippers in the 2019 offseason.

The trade, as you might expect, didn't leave DeRozan with positive feelings for the Raptors.

Nonetheless, DeRozan arrived in San Antonio ready to embrace a new city, fan base, team and culture.

Toronto is a great city and the people there are too but after having played for a franchise without a single NBA Finals appearance, he's now the centerpiece for a team that's won five NBA championships and six NBA Finals appearances. He's with an organization that is symbolic of team loyalty, with players like Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobli and David Robinson spending their entire careers with the Spurs.

Furthermore, as a guy who wants to play at the highest level, the Spurs are one of the most competitive teams in the league on a yearly basis. They're intelligent and selfless players being coached by perhaps the greatest coach of all-time in Gregg Popovich.

There's a plenty for DeRozan to be comfortable with in San Antonio.
