During his time with Los Angeles Lakers in 2012-13, Dwight Howard had a nightmare of a season. Aside from the much publicized chemistry issues he had with Kobe Bryant and other teammates, one more thing that troubled him then was his blood-glucose levels being “through the roof.” It was safe to say that he had a sweet tooth.

After joining the Houston Rockets a year later, he brought down his glucose by changing eating habits and maintaining a healthier diet.

The newly-acquired center of the Atlanta Hawks admittedly still enjoys treats but does not consume them as much as he did before.

During his interview with Steve Hummer of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, he answered a lot of questions about his future with his hometown team and had this to say about his love for “crazy food.”

“I was eating a lot of crazy food back in the day, I've slowed down. (But) sometimes during the summer I have those moments I want to eat everything, be a kid again, and don't realize I'm 30. I got to eat the right things.

“I was a big candy guy. It's tough to wean off that sugar. Sodas weren't a problem. The biggest problem were Skittles, Honey Buns, Twix – that kind of sugar I was consuming at a high rate.”

The 8-time all-star is looking to resurrect his career with the Hawks after two sub-par seasons in Houston where he averaged career-lows in minutes per game.

With his new diet in place and a mindset of wanting to win more than ever, D12 is definitely on the right track. We just have to wait and see if this will translate to success for him and his team.
