The Atlanta Hawks essentially hit the reset button when they traded away franchise cornerstone Trae Young to the Washington Wizards at the deadline. It’s clear they plan to build around their youth, such as rising star Jalen Johnson. And their other deadline trade for Jonathan Kuminga solidifies their direction. The name of the game for the Hawks is to identify potential young talent, which they hope to do with their signing of Keshon Gilbert to a two-way contract roster spot, as per NBA insider Jake Fischer.
With the Hawks’ signing of Keshon Gilbert, that fills all three two-way contract spots on their roster. The Hawks had an open spot after converting Caleb Houstan’s two-way to a standard deal. Gilbert joins Christian Koloko and RayJ Dennis as the Hawks’ two-way contract players.
Gilbert is fresh off a stint with the Wizards as part of a 10-day contract. During that stretch, he appeared in three games at just about 16 minutes per game. He averaged 2.0 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.0 assists while shooting 50 percent from 2-point range and 100 percent from the free-throw line.
His best game came in his first game with the Wizards, albeit a loss to the Brooklyn Nets. He finished with a well-rounded stat line of four points, three rebounds, two assists and three blocked shots in a little over 28 minutes. He went a perfect 4-of-4 from the free-throw line.
After going undrafted in the 2025 NBA Draft, Gilbert joined the Wizards for training camp on an Exhibit 10 contract. He was cut before the start of the season, and had been playing for their G League affiliate, the Capital City Go-Go.
