All eyes were on the matchup between Darius Slay and D.K. Metcalf when the Philadelphia Eagles took on the Seattle Seahawks Monday night, with Metcalf besting the veteran cornerback. Following the end of the game, Slay spoke about being unable to contain Metcalf in Philadelphia's loss.

“It was a great battle. I won’t say it was difficult. I lost every 50/50 ball today,” the Eagles CB said, via ProFootballTalk. “I am usually on the other side of that. Today, I am on the other side of it. I let the team down. I told the defense, that game was on me. I have to play better, but props to DK for giving me the good work. We are competing every play, but I lost every 50/50 ball and I have to be better.”

From the moment the game began, Russell Wilson and the Seahawks didn't shy away from targeting Slay. Metcalf would finish the night against the Eagles with 10 receptions for 177 yards, helping Seattle secure a 23-17 victory over Philadelphia.

Despite the dismal performance, Slay expects more out of himself, especially against the better wide receivers in the NFL. And seeing that the Eagles handed him a lucrative extension before the season, they would like to see him perform better in those situations as well.

Next week, Slay will be tasked with covering Davante Adams when Philadelphia travels to take on the Green Bay Packers. Then, in the ensuing two weeks, he'll draw the responsibility of guarding Michael Thomas and DeAndre Hopkins. Given that, Slay and the Eagles will have to put their underwhelming outing on Monday night in the rear-view mirror.
