Philadelphia Eagles defensive lineman Fletcher Cox is coming off of a rather rough 2019 campaign in which he totaled 40 tackles, 3.5 sacks, a fumble recovery, and a defensive touchdown.

He made the Pro Bowl, but that seemed to be based on his name more than anything else. That being said, Cox made one of the Pro Bowl's most memorable plays, taking a lateral from Minnesota Vikings safety Harrison Smith 61 yards for the touchdown.

And in spite of Cox's setback this season, he has high hopes for his future.

“I definitely haven’t hit my ceiling, man,” Cox said, according to Zach Berman of The Athletic.

To be fair to Cox, he underwent foot surgery last offseason and did not participate in offseason workouts, training camp or the preseason, so he could have been a bit rusty.

It took the 29-year-old until Week 7 before he finally logged his first sack of the season, and as Cox noted to Berman, he did play a bit better as the year wore on.

“I had some ups and downs,” Cox said. “I started slow. But picked it up toward the end. My best game of the year was probably the playoffs.”

So, were Cox's struggles in 2019 merely due to him recovering from surgery? Or are there deeper issues here that the Eagles need to be concerned about moving forward?

It remains to be seen, but there is no doubt that Cox has been Philadelphia's best defensive player for the last five years, making five straight Pro Bowl appearances and earning a First-Team All-Pro selection as recently as 2018.
