Philadelphia Eagles left tackle Jason Peters, unfortunately, won’t take part in Super Bowl LII against the New England Patriots after he tore the ACL in his right knee midway through the season. There were fears that the 36-year-old’s career was likely done following that serious injury.

But according to Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Peters fully intends to make a comeback and play next season – even if it’s not with the Eagles.

“They hadn’t asked me, but I’m going to be back,” Peters said Monday when asked if he’s had any conversations with Eagles brass about his future. “Step out on a limb, if they don’t want me, I’m still [going] somewhere.

“I’m playing good,” Peters said. “It’s not like I’m out there giving up a bunch of sacks or playing sloppy. I love this game and I’m going to go as long as I can.”

Peters remains under contract until 2019 after he was given a one-year extension last summer. However, he has a significant cap hit which the Eagles may decide to move on from him. Halapoulivaati Vaitai has played well in place of Peters at left tackle and may succeed him full-time. Although, the Eagles would have to eat $6,333,334 of Peters’ salary for next season if they were to release him.

Regardless of what the Eagles decide to do, Peters is determined to play next season. He’s already running and lifting weights just a few months removed from his injury, and he expects to be a full participant at training camp.
