Quarterback Nick Foles helped lead the Philadelphia Eagles to their first Super Bowl win in franchise history in Super Bowl 52 over the New England Patriots.

The huge performance from Foles has apparently earned him more than just a Super Bowl MVP award as the mayor of his hometown of Austin, Texas took to social media on Friday to declare Feb. 9 as now being “Nick Foles Day.”

This is a touching honor for Foles to get from his hometown where he grew up and began playing the game of football.

The 29-year-old stepped up on the grandest stage in the sport against the defending champions led by four-time Super Bowl MVP Tom Brady. He more than held his own completing 28 of 43 passes for 373 yards and three touchdowns. He also held a 106.1 passer rating and recorded a receiving touchdown in the process of becoming the first player in NFL history to throw and catch a touchdown in the Super Bowl.

It capped off was an impressive push through the playoffs that saw Foles perform like an elite quarterback throwing for 971 yards on 72.6 percent completion rate with six touchdown passes and an interception while holding a 115.7 passer rating. he also recorded more than 240 passing yards and hold a passer rating above 100 in each contest. He was able to put together that stretch despite playing in just one career playoff game prior to that.

He was at his best when it mattered most leading the way with more than 350 passing yards and three touchdowns in both the NFC Championship game and Super Bowl facing two formidable opponents in the Minnesota Vikings and Patriots

Foles now has something to his namesake away from the NFL that helps further cement his legacy in his hometown, which is an honor that is rarely handed out. This also further emphasizes the tremendous level of impact that he has made on not only the Eagles and their fan base, but also those back in Austin.
