Just recently, Nintendo and The Pokemon Company dropped the official reveal trailer for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. This marks the game as the 9th generation of Pokemon coming later this year. Aside from that, we can’t say much about what’s to come. With that being said, here are 5 easter eggs you might have missed in the reveal trailer.

1. Segrada Familia

If you know you’re geography, then you might have noticed a basilica-like structure on-site in the trailer. Apparently, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are taking heavy inspiration in the Spanish region of the world. Because of that, many of the game’s structures heavily resemble the buildings found in Spain. Most notably, you can easily spot a structure similar to the Segrada Familia building at the beginning of the reveal. For now, we don’t know what role the building will play in the game. We can only assume that there could potentially be a political arc involved in the storyline.

2. Different Weather Conditions

At this point, it’s no secret that The Pokemon Company plans on finally giving their fans a true open-world Pokemon game. They even gave a subtle hint on the description box on YouTube stating “Welcome to the open world of Pokémon.” Having said that, we noticed in the opening of the reveal trailer that there are snowy mountains behind the Barcelona-like town. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet could be taking a page out of Breath of the Wild’s playbook. Just like in BOTW, we might potentially be able to explore different parts of the map that have different weather conditions.

Technically we’ve already seen something similar in Pokemon Sword and Shield, however, The Crown Tundra was just an expansion pass. Also, the weather conditions only changed in the wild area of the Galar region within the game. Plus players had to travel to a different hub world to experience the snowy area. With Pokemon Scarlet and Violet looking to be a true open-world game, we can expect changing weather conditions around the map.

3. Hidden Collectibles

Pokemon games throughout the years always had hidden collectibles for players to find. This time won’t be different as we’ve spotted a potential area where players could seek these items.

In one part of the trailer, you’ll notice a random Meowth strolling through the night in between two mountains. Within that same path, you might notice a sparkling and shimmering phenomenon taking place in the background. In reality, these could just be some random shiny stones bouncing off the moon’s light. However, if you’re a true Pokemon game fan, then you know that the sparkling phenomenon could be a hidden item.

4. An Underground City?

This might be an obnoxious claim, but, it’s fun to think about the idea of having an underground city in the game. In the trailer, one of the scenes featured a desert area with a few Stonjourners roaming around. Right behind them is a few structures sticking out of the sand which could mean something is hidden underneath.

This could mean a lot of things, really. Maybe it’s only one building hidden underneath wherein the player would have to figure out a way to dig it up. It could probably be just part of the area’s design and the game’s ancient history which we could learn about throughout the game. But just imagine if it were an underground city just waiting for us to explore what lies within.

5. Wild Pokemon spawning in Towns

As a Pokemon Trainer, your only two goals in life are to catch them all and complete the Pokedex. Based on what we’ve seen in the trailer, catching them all might be a bit easier.

We all know that all types of Pokemon are supposedly scattered in the entire wildlands of the region. However, it looks like players can now find wild Pokemon in some towns too. One part of the trailer showcased a town featuring a couple of Swablus, a Psyduck, and a Pikachu with no trainer by their side. This could be a subtle nod that players can now catch Pokemon in Town areas. As chaotic as that sounds, it’ll be a pretty cool feature to have if GameFreak did indeed include it. Then again, they could just be friendly Pokemon who just likes hanging around people with no intention to be in a Pokeball.

Did you catch all these details in the trailer? Maybe you spotted something else? With Pokemon Scarlet and Violet transitioning into the open-world scene, exploration is endless. We can’t wait for what GameFreak has to offer for the 9th generation of Pokemon. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are coming out for the Nintendo Switch sometime in late 2022.
