The swashbuckling southpaw has an estimated net worth of $35 million, a year after retiring from all forms of cricket and three years removed from his final game for India.
One of the all-time greats in limited-overs cricket, Yuvi, as his beloved fans like to call him, carved a niche for himself with his aggressive style of batting and his athleticism as a fielder. He once famously hit England’s Stuart Broad for six sixes in a single over at the 2007 ICC World T20, which India went on to win.
In the same match, Yuvraj also broke the record for the fastest half-century in T20 cricket, reaching the mark in just 12 deliveries. The record still stands to this day. Yuvraj also led from the front in the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup, earning Man of the Tournament honors as India took home the trophy for the first time since 1983.
Yuvraj’s achievements on the field and his persona off it endeared him to India’s cricket-crazy population. One of the most well-known Indian faces during his playing career, Yuvraj was highly sought-after by brands for his marketability. He was the brand ambassador for Microsoft’s Xbox 360 when it was launched in India in 2006. Yuvraj appeared in several ads for the gaming console with Bollywood megastar Akshay Kumar. When Codemasters released their cricket video game in India in 2007, it was titled after their brand ambassador – Yuvraj Singh International Cricket 2007.
Through the course of his career, and after retirement, Yuvraj has endorsed many brands. It’s an impressive resume that includes Pepsi, Puma, Reebok, Cadbury, LG, Whirlpool, Birla Sun Life, Laureus & Benz, among others. Yuvraj was appointed as the brand ambassador of Ulysse Nardin in 2013.
Through multiple endorsement deals and his playing contract with the BCCI, Yuvraj has amassed a big fortune over the years. He has also added to his net worth with the release of his autobiography, “The Test of my Life: From Cricket to Cancer and Back.”
In 2011, after his success in the World Cup, Yuvraj announced he was diagnosed with lung cancer. The shocking news had many believing this would be the end of Yuvraj’s career. However, Yuvraj being the fighter that he is, went through a tough phase of chemotherapy to beat cancer and aimed at resuming cricket at the 2012 World T20. He made a successful comeback, finishing the tournament as India’s highest wicket-taker. Following his successful fight with cancer, Yuvraj started YouWeCan, a foundation focused on raising awareness and helping cancer patients throughout the country. He has invested $6-7 million in several related start-ups to speed up the growth of YouWeCan.
Yuvraj has also been involved with Bollywood. He is married to actress Hazel Keech. The 2007 animated Bollywood film Jumbo featured Yuvraj’s voice. He has also lent his voice to ‘Captain India’, an upcoming animated film where the character he voices is featured as the protagonist.
Yuvraj has been active in his investments too. It is believed that Yuvraj has put in close to $16 million in various investments.
Yuvraj’s contribution to Indian sports was recognized by the Government of India when he was awarded the 2012 Arjuna Award, the second-highest sporting honor of India. Yuvraj is also a recipient of the Padma Shri, the fourth-highest civilian award of India.
