With Opening Day of the 2022 MLB season just days away, excitement is building, both for the return of America's Pastime and for the return of Fantasy Baseball. Fantasy managers who recently completed their drafts are likely assessing their teams and preparing for the first week of action. One of the more important items to keep tabs on is injuries. Los Angeles Angels superstar and fantasy stud Mike Trout, who is dealing with an illness, has missed the last two Spring Training games with what manager Joe Maddon has characterized as a stomach bug. The three-time MVP was without a timetable for return, likely making fantasy gamers who spent a top pick on Trout nervous. However, those same fantasy players can breathe a sigh of relief after Maddon provided an optimistic update on Tuesday, as reported by Sam Blum of The Athletic.

Maddon said “he's optimistic that Trout will be available on Opening Day.” The star outfielder is set to take batting practice again on Wednesday, with the hope that he'll be on the field for Thursday's matchup against the Houston Astros.

That would be great news for Trout's fantasy baseball managers, who likely spent a first or second round pick on the slugger. The 30-year-old is an obvious bounce-back candidate after playing just 36 games this past season due to a calf injury.

In 11 seasons with the Angels, Trout has averaged the stuff of fantasy baseball dreams, as he has compiled per 162 game averages of a .305 batting average, 39 homers, 122 runs, 103 RBI, 109 walks and 26 stolen bases.

While the Angels outfielder hasn't ran as much in recent years, he remains a fantasy baseball star who contributes in multiple categories in roto formats and is elite in every area in points formats.
