Final Fantasy XIV sales have resumed and are back online today, about six months since sales have been suspended.

Back in December 15, SQUARE ENIX made the difficult decision to halt the sales of Final Fantasy XIV digital copies. The publishers also prevented players from using the early-game free-to-play features of the hit MMORPG. This was done to preserve the gaming experience of existing users, who at the time were experiencing severe server issues. The game's latest expansion, Endwalker, was so popular and was so well-received that the game experienced an influx of players that it has never seen before. Due to this, servers became overloaded, leading to long queue times and general server instability.

One month later, SQUARE ENIX were able to acquire new servers and expand its list of data centers. A new Ocenia server was opened to help decongest its existing servers. And now, nearly two weeks after the opening of the new server, SQUARE ENIX has resumed sales of digital copies of the game. However, SQUARE ENIX has yet to resume the free trial offering for new players. Final Fantasy XIV's free trial covers the entire A Realm Reborn base expansion of the game and until the first game expansion, Heavensward. That's a lot of content to go through, which allows players to play for free up to level 60.

The opening of the new server is definitely great news for fans. Now, players can experience Eorza and the stories within the continent without having to worry (too much) about server issues. Of course, a lot of the game's servers still remain congested, and another influx of players is to be expected since Final Fantasy XIV sales are once again resuming. SQUARE ENIX has shown their sincerity in addressing these issues, however, and they continue to find ways to address server congestion.
