Florida Gators center Kerry Blackshear named preseason SEC player of the year

Florida Gators center Kerry Blackshear has been named the SEC basketball preseason player of the year by the media.

Blackshear is set for his first season with the Gators after transferring from Virginia Tech, and he should give Mike White’s squad a legitimate shot at a national championship.

Georgia’s Anthony Edwards, Kentucky’s Ashton Hagans, Ole Miss’ Breein Tyree, and Mississippi State’s Reggie Perry were also earned preseason First Team All-SEC honors.

Here’s the full list of SEC basketball preseason awards:

First Team All-SEC

  • Kerry Blackshear – Florida
  • Anthony Edwards – Georgia
  • Ashton Hagans – Kentucky
  • Breein Tyree – Ole Miss
  • Reggie Perry – Mississippi State

Second Team All-SEC

  • Kira Lewis Jr. – Alabama
  • Isaiah Joe – Arkansas
  • Andrew Nembhard – Florida
  • Tyrese Maxey – Kentucky
  • EJ Montgomery – Kentucky
  • Skylar Mays – LSU
  • Lamonte Turner – Tennessee

SEC basketball media day takes place on Wednesday, with the new season set to tip off on Nov. 5.
