Charles Leclerc's nightmare run of Formula 1 races continues as the Ferrari driver suffered another unforced setback at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

Leading the race at lap 20, Leclerc was forced to exit after smoke started emanating from his Ferrari. Not long after, he was forced to exit the race – his second time in the last three Formula 1 race weekends.

A heartbroken Charles Leclerc spoke out after his premature removal from the Azerbaijan GP.

“It’s hard to find the words, it hurts. I lost power. I don’t know what happened. I did not talk to anyone yet [to know more]. I’ll try my best to win the next one. The motivation will stay the same, no problem in that, but yeah it hurts..”

What makes the loss even tougher to swallow is the fact that Charles Leclerc started off in pole position for his fourth consecutive F1 race. But none of those resulted in the full points for a race win, with just a second place finish in Miami and a fourth place finish in his home race of Monaco to show for it.

“We were in the lead of the race and I was managing the tyres well……we just had to manage the tyres until the end. We were definitely in the best position to do that…another DNF it hurts.”

Charles Leclerc now finds himself a full 34 points off the top spot, currently held by Red Bull's Max Verstappen at 150 points followed by teammate Sergio Perez at 128 points.

Leclerc's teammate Carlos Sainz also suffered a DNF after a brake-by-wire issue made him pull up from his P4 position to fail to finish the race as well. Ferrari now falls behind by 79 points in the constuctor standings.
