Spanish tennis star and world no. 5 Rafael Nadal isn't called the ‘King of Clay' for nothing. Nadal's greatness on the surface is well known in the ATP world, as he has secured 26 Masters 1000 titles, as well as an Open Era record 62 titles and 13 French Open trophies. But Nadal, who has lost three times in 109 appearances at Roland Garros, wasn't done making history yet. The 21-time major champion set yet another insane record at the French Open after his first-round win over Australia's Jordan Thompson in straight sets. Here's what Nadal accomplished with the win, per ESPN.
Nadal's win-loss record at Roland Garros now stands at 106-3, better than any male player has managed at any of the four Grand Slam events.
Not only does Nadal own the most wins of all-time at Roland Garros, but he also owns the most wins of any male player at any of the four major Grand Slams, surpassing Roger Federer, who has secured 105 wins at Wimbledon.
It's yet another incredible piece of history to add to the Spaniard's long list of achievements. Of course, Nadal won't sit back and admire his record with another French Open trophy out there for the taking.
With the first-round win, Nadal advances to a matchup against Frenchman Corentin Moutet, who upset former French Open champion Stan Wawrinka on Monday.
However, Nadal's quest for a 14th trophy at Roland Garros could be one of his most difficult yet, with Novak Djokovic, who has beaten him twice at the venue, in his quarter, and rising star Carlos Alcaraz potentially waiting for him if he makes it to the final.
