The New York Giants and general manager Dave Gettleman shocked a lot of people when they traded away Odell Beckham Jr to the Cleveland Browns. The Browns gave up Jabril Peppers, a first round pick, and a third round pick and that was just too much compensation for Gettleman to say no to.

“It was a business decision,” Gettleman told Yahoo Sports. “Back in the day when you franchise-tagged a player, if someone came and signed them, that gave you two first-round picks. That’s only happened once in the history of the NFL, and that was Sean Gilbert.

“So basically I had a team call me up that offered me not only two No. 1 picks [Peppers was a first-round draft pick in 2017], but a third-round pick as well. And it was an offer I couldn’t refuse.”

Although the Giants did trade away their star player, there are so many holes this team needs to fill, getting another first round draft pick and Peppers might be the way to go.

It also allows Beckham Jr, get away from the New York media and compete for a team that hopes of the playoffs, something the Giants might be a few years away from.

The most important thing for the Giants now is what exactly they do with the Browns first round draft pick. If the Giants miss on that first-round draft pick that means the team traded Beckham basically straight up for Peppers, and that isn't a good trade.

To find out how well the Giants actually did with this trade, it probably needs to be three or more years down the road.
